Buying PC components in Tunisia

Building a PC in Tunisia works differently from building one in a market with continuous supply, and most advice written online quietly assumes the latter. Components here arrive in discrete import batches. Each batch is priced against the exchange rate on the day it was ordered, which means two retailers selling the identical part can have paid materially different amounts for it — and rarely adjust afterwards. A retailer holding stock from a favourable batch can undercut a competitor who restocked later by fifteen or twenty percent, on the same box, indefinitely.

That structural fact has three practical consequences. Comparing retailers is not an optimisation for the unusually diligent; it is the largest single saving available on a build, and it costs nothing but the time to look. Timing matters more here than elsewhere — a component listed by only one retailer will often be undercut within weeks as a second batch lands. And availability moves independently of price, so the cheapest listing and the one actually in stock are frequently not the same listing.

How the compatibility checking works

Price is only half the problem. A parts list can be entirely reasonable component by component and still not assemble into a working computer, because compatibility is a property of combinations rather than of individual parts.

The PC Builder validates ten hardware rules against your list every time you add something. Some are logical: the processor's socket must match the motherboard's, and a matching socket is not always sufficient because the chipset also has to support that processor generation. The memory type is dictated by the board rather than the processor, and DDR4 and DDR5 modules are physically keyed so neither will seat in the other's slot.

Others are physical, and they cause more returned parts than the logical ones because they are invisible in every product photograph. A graphics card has a length; a case publishes a maximum clearance, and the first must comfortably exceed the second. A cooler has a height, subject to the same arithmetic against a different case measurement. A motherboard has a form factor, and a case accepts its own size and anything smaller, never larger.

The remaining rule is electrical. The builder totals the power draw of your components, applies a margin, and reports the minimum power supply wattage the build needs. The margin is not caution for its own sake: modern graphics cards produce current spikes lasting around a millisecond that can reach well above their rated draw. These never appear in an average-consumption figure, and they are entirely capable of tripping the protection circuitry on a supply sized exactly to the calculated load — which presents to the user as an abrupt reboot during a game, with nothing actually faulty.

Alongside the checks, the builder estimates gaming frame rates at 1080p, 1440p and 4K once a processor and graphics card are both selected. These are planning figures derived from published benchmark data, most useful for comparing two candidate builds against each other rather than as an absolute prediction of what your specific machine will produce.

Is VarCraft a shop?

No. VarCraft is a price comparison and build planning platform. We do not sell, stock or ship hardware. Every offer links directly to the retailer's own product page, and the purchase happens entirely with that retailer under their terms.

Where do the prices come from?

From the retailers' own published listings. Each entry on VarCraft records the price, any promotional price and the stock status shown at the time of the last update, along with a direct link back to the retailer page it corresponds to.

How current are they?

Prices reflect the last update rather than the live price. Flash sales, in-store-only pricing and stock that sells out in between all happen. Always confirm the final price on the retailer's page before purchasing — every offer links straight to it.

How are offers ordered on a part page?

By price, cheapest first, with the stock status shown alongside each one so you can see at a glance whether the lowest price is actually available.

Does VarCraft cover laptops and prebuilt PCs?

Yes — the Systems section lists laptops and prebuilt desktops from the same Tunisian retailers, with their specifications broken out for comparison. Individual components and the PC Builder remain the main focus of the site, but a prebuilt is genuinely the better choice for some buyers, particularly at the budget end or when a single warranty covering the whole machine matters.

Do I need an account?

No. Browsing parts, comparing prices and using the PC Builder all work without signing in. An account is only needed to save a build and return to it later from another device.

How much of a gaming budget should the graphics card take?

Roughly 35–40% for a machine built primarily for gaming. It is the largest determinant of performance at any resolution above 1080p. Spreading a budget evenly across components is the most common mistake in a first build, because components do not contribute equally to frame rate.

How much memory do I actually need?

16 GB across two modules is the practical baseline in 2026. 32 GB is genuinely useful for content creation and heavy multitasking; for gaming alone it is largely insurance. Using two modules rather than one matters more than the total, because dual-channel operation is a substantial free performance gain that a single stick forfeits.

I found an incorrect price or specification. How do I report it?

Use the contact page. Corrections are genuinely useful — an offer occasionally ends up attached to the wrong component, and reports are consistently the fastest way that gets found. Retailers spotting something wrong about their own listings are especially welcome to get in touch.
