How to use the PC Builder
The PC Builder assembles a parts list and validates it as you go. Select a component type, choose a part from the catalogue, and it is added to your build along with every retailer price we track for it. Three things then happen automatically.
First, compatibility. Each time you add a part, ten hardware rules are re-checked against everything already in the list: processor socket against motherboard socket, memory type against what the board accepts, motherboard form factor against the case, graphics card length against the case's published clearance, cooler height against the same, cooler capacity against the processor's thermal output, and power supply capacity against the combined draw. Conflicts are flagged immediately rather than discovered after delivery.
Second, power. The builder totals the power draw of your selected components and applies a safety margin, then reports the minimum power supply wattage the build needs. The margin is not padding — modern graphics cards produce brief current spikes far above their rated draw, and a supply sized exactly to the calculated load can shut down under them.
Third, performance. As soon as a processor and graphics card are both present, the builder estimates gaming frame rates at 1080p, 1440p and 4K. These are planning figures derived from published benchmark data rather than measurements of your specific machine, and they are most useful for comparing two candidate builds against each other.
Every part in the list shows all tracked retailer prices side by side, with promotional prices and stock status included. Clicking an offer takes you directly to that retailer's product page to complete the purchase — VarCraft does not sell hardware and takes no part in the transaction.
Choosing components in the right order
Compatibility problems are far easier to avoid than to resolve, and the reason is that hardware decisions form a dependency chain. Choosing in the order below means each decision constrains the next, and most conflicts never arise.
- Decide your target resolution and frame rate first. Every subsequent decision follows from this, and it is the one thing the tool cannot decide for you.
- Choose the graphics card that meets that target. It is the largest determinant of gaming performance and typically 35–40% of a gaming budget.
- Choose a processor capable of feeding that card without holding it back — and no more, because surplus processor performance produces very little in games above 1080p.
- Choose a motherboard with the matching socket, confirming the chipset supports that processor generation. A matching socket alone is not always sufficient.
- Choose memory of the type the board accepts, in two modules rather than one. Dual-channel operation is a free performance gain.
- Choose storage — one NVMe SSD large enough for the system and the games you play regularly.
- Choose a power supply at or above the wattage the builder calculates, and confirm it has the connectors your graphics card requires.
- Choose the case last, since it has to absorb the physical constraints of everything above it.
What the builder does not do
Compatibility checking covers the rules that can be validated from published specifications. It cannot know whether a specific motherboard needs a BIOS update to start a newer processor, whether a particular memory kit is on a board's validated list, or whether a wide cooler will overhang your memory modules. On a recent platform, checking the manufacturer's support list remains worthwhile.
Prices come from the retailers' own published listings and are refreshed regularly, but they are a snapshot rather than a live feed. Flash sales, in-store-only pricing and stock that sells out between refreshes all occur. Confirm the final price on the retailer's own page before purchasing.
Frame rate estimates are planning guides. Real performance varies with the specific game, its settings, driver versions, memory configuration and thermal conditions.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account to use the PC Builder?
No. The builder is fully usable without signing in. An account is only needed if you want to save a build and return to it later from another device.
Can I buy the parts directly through VarCraft?
No. VarCraft is a price comparison and build planning platform. Each offer links directly to the retailer's own product page, and the purchase happens entirely with that retailer.
How often are the prices updated?
Prices come from the retailers' own published listings and are refreshed regularly. They reflect the last update rather than the live price, so confirming on the retailer's page before buying is always sensible.
Why does the builder recommend a higher wattage than my components add up to?
Because adding up rated draw underestimates what a supply actually needs to deliver. Modern graphics cards produce transient spikes lasting around a millisecond that can reach well above their rated power. These never appear in an average figure but are entirely capable of tripping a supply's protection circuitry. The recommended figure includes margin for them, and keeps the unit in its most efficient operating band.
What happens if two parts are incompatible?
The builder flags the conflict and explains which rule failed — for example a socket mismatch between processor and motherboard, or a graphics card longer than the case allows. You can still keep both parts in the list; the warning simply remains visible.
How accurate are the FPS estimates?
They are approximations based on published benchmark data for the selected processor and graphics card, and they are most reliable as a relative comparison between two builds rather than as an absolute prediction. Actual frame rates depend heavily on the specific game, its settings, and your memory and thermal configuration.
Why do prices differ so much between retailers for the same part?
Components in Tunisia arrive in discrete import batches, each priced against the exchange rate on the day it was ordered. A retailer holding stock from a favourable batch can sell the identical part for considerably less than one who restocked later, and retailers who paid more rarely reprice downward. Comparing every listing is the largest single saving available on a build here.
